Motorcycles And Gps Navigation

GPS or Global positioning System has been around for many years. The opening of the system to public use has spawned a renaissance in personal navigation. It used to be that personal navigation consisted of unwieldy folding maps, personal knowledge of area landmarks, and friendly locals giving out directions. Now, navigating with these resources was not always clear cut or efficient but you eventually got to where you needed to get to. With the advent of GPS, though, a lot of the guess work of traveling the road has been removed. It has not always been good with GPS. In the early years it was a nearly worthless service. But, like so many other things the product only got better as they matured. Today GPS has matured to a point that it is intertwined through all aspects of our lives. Whether it is used for navigation purposes or purposes; whether we realize it or not, GPS touches all of our lives every day.

One of the greatest uses of GPS has been the design of a GPS unit that can with stand the rigors of being mounted to a motorcycle, mainly the ability to withstand vibration.

Vibration reduction is only one of many innovations that has made motorcycle GPS possible. Innovations in screen technology has made the GPS unit itself easier to use by riders. The use of Bluetooth technology has allowed for two way communication between rider and GPS unit. Two way satellite communications connects the rider to the real world. Increased capacity has allowed more maps and more detailed maps to be downloaded to a GPS unit. You can now even download tourist information telling you about the area you are passing through. Innovations in GPS technology have made it more usable and more user friendly. And, units specifically designed for motorcycles have increased its value to a rider 100 fold.

 GPS Specifically Designed for Motorcycles

It all boils down to freedom and feeling closer to the world. Cars insulate you from the real world. Driving through the countryside on a motorcycle is much different than doing so in a car. Motorcycle GPS allows this experience to be open to more people. Now more than ever more and more people are taking to the long road and they are taking their GPS units with them. There is good reason for that.

Although some feel that using GPS to help you navigate removes the adventure, I think it accentuates the adventure. Although being able to map your trip out in advance does remove elements of surprise it also opens up doors of opportunity. With GPS you can make any deviation from your planned trip and when finished can get back to your trip where you left off. To me this gives you greater freedom. Not less as some would argue.

If you are planning a trip and are thinking about going by motorcycle you should seriously consider buying a motorcycle GPS. It will be one of the best investments you will ever have made. It will enhance your trip in ways a map never could. You will almost never get lost and you will be able to plan your trip budget down to the last mile. Using GPS will liberate your vacation and make it an adventure that you control.
